Clifton Park & Halfmoon Emergency Corps. (CPHM EMS) hosted a CPR and First Aid Certification for the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) on March 7th. Nearly 30 local CAP Cadets, between the ages of 12-21 years old, as well as Senior Members, were educated in life saving CPR skills and first aid basics.
Before the training began, the cadets received validation for the necessity of knowing, and administering CPR skills: Jeff and Julie Keene of Clifton Park addressed the Cadets and shared their first hand experience. Jeff went into full arrest in church on Christmas Day in 2007. Within 1-2 minutes, a fellow parishioner recognized his symptoms and began performing compressions immediately. Other church goers came to her aid and together, they had a significant impact on Jeff’s survival.
Cadets were able to utilize CPHM's computerized CPR skills evaluation monitor which grades the participants on rate and depth of compressions. Having a real-time skills evaluation helped participants improve skills rapidly and have a more true-to-life experience. Cadets were even able to compete with each other to see who earned the best CPR score.
