This summer we were so lucky to have two incredible administrative interns onboard! This is their last week before going back to school and we wanted to send them off with a proper Q&A :)
First up is Allison who was such a joy. She helped with numerous safety power point presentations, she wrote some blog post content (coming soon....) as well as a ton of other community outreach projects. She is a grammar wiz and and all around great person! We thank her for being such a great addition to the team this summer!
We asked Allison a few questions about her experience with us, check it out:
Give us 3 adjectives to describe your internship experience at CPHM?
Valuable, helpful, and fun
What’s something you were surprised to learn through this experience?
That desk jobs aren’t boring. Television and movies portray having a desk job as one of the most boring thing in a person’s life, but after this internship, I can confidently say that it just isn’t true. And I wasn’t always at the desk. There were plenty of opportunities to partake in outreach events that allowed interaction with the community.
What would a community member be interested in knowing about CPHM?
That literally everyone works hard to make sure that any experience someone has with CPHM is the best experience possible, whether it’s receiving medical care, or taking a CPR class, or having a car seat installed.
What's one project you worked on that you are most proud of?
The First Aid powerpoint for a summer camp. It was great to be given the chance to educate younger kids about summer safety and to give tips I learned over the years.
What's the most unusual item in your desk drawer?
Probably my fountain pen. I mean, how many people can say that they write with a fountain pen?
What inspires you?
Interesting people and music. Music is a great motivator and a single lyric or chord progression is sometimes enough to spark inspiration. And it’s hard to not be inspired by interesting people, whether they be incredibly successful or incredibly quirky.
Where do you go to school?
Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York
What are you studying?
I am a theater arts major
Hmmmm, so why an internship at CPHM?
Who would ever think of passing up a wonderful opportunity regardless of what they are studying in school? This internship has given me such a great experience with meeting so many different people, and has definitely provided me with communication skills.
What advice would you give to a future intern?
Do not be afraid to be creative. If anything, this internship is the best opportunity to exercise your creative skills in a work environment. Your opinions are valued. And move around a bit; take a lap around the building. It helps clear your head and get your blood flowing again, especially if you’ve been sitting at your desk for a few hours. Also, go to Uncommon Grounds for your lunch break at least once.
Describe your summer in a gif
Just Kidding. It was more like this.
